SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE BATTLING TO REACH SITE OF CRASHED HELICOPTER
South African Police say they are encountering difficulty in reaching the area where a helicopter crashed in a ravine at Msikaba near Lusikisiki in Eastern Cape Province on Wednesday afternoon.
It is believed the R44 helicopter was flying from Margate on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal Province with four people on board when it went down.
Police Spokesperson Mduduzi Godlwana says the ravine where the helicopter is believed to have crashed is inaccessible and the weather is bad. He says the police rescue team will be at the scene at first light Thursday.
“The police were informed that there was a helicopter which fell on the edge of the sea at Msikaba but it’s very difficult to reach where the helicopter is,” he added.
“We cannot even tell who it belongs to and how many people are in the helicopter but we have informed our units. Surely they are going to come tomorrow (Thursday) because it’s late now.”
