Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government declared that visas will be free for African nationals, following a decision made at the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore. This announcement marks a significant step towards fostering closer ties within the continent.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the decision was formalized through an additional report to the amending finance law for the 2025 budget. This report outlines the implementation of free visas for nationals from African countries, reinforcing Burkina Faso’s commitment to Pan-African unity and cooperation.
Minister of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana, emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the Head of State’s Pan-Africanist vision. He stated that any national from an African country wishing to travel to Burkina Faso will no longer be required to pay visa fees. However, he clarified that free travel does not equate to visa exemption.
The decree’s adoption aims to enhance the free movement of African people and their goods across Burkinabe territory, further promoting African integration, as highlighted by Minister Sana.
