Kisumu: The 23rd ordinary meeting of the Sectoral Council on Lake Victoria Basin (SECOM-LVB) is set to take place in Kisumu from May 12 to 16, 2025. The meeting will gather ministries responsible for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, Maritime Transport, and Communications from the East African Community (EAC) partner states.
According to Kenya News Agency, the session for senior officials is scheduled for May 12 and 13, followed by a meeting of Permanent/Principal Secretaries and Undersecretaries on May 14 and 15. The session for Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers will occur on May 16. Participants will include representatives from the Republic of Kenya, Republic of Uganda, Republic of Burundi, Republic of Rwanda, Republic of South Sudan, and the United Republic of Tanzania.
The SECOM-LVB serves as the governing body of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC), an EAC agency responsible for coordinating the sustainable development of the Lake Victoria Basin. It is tasked with providing policy guidance and oversight as per Article 35 of the Protocol for Sustainable Development of the Lake Victoria Basin and Section 8 of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission Act, 2022.
The meeting will review the implementation status of previous decisions and directives from the 22nd SECOM-LVB, assess the 11th Joint Regional Policy Steering Committee report for LVBC Projects and Programmes, and examine Finance, Administration, and Institutional matters.
