Final Farewell to Jean Victor Ouedraogo: Teacher, Journalist, and Builder


Ouagadougou: Jean Victor Ouedraogo, who died on October 22, 2025, was taken to his final resting place in Silmissi, in the commune of Komsilga, this Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the presence of his parents, colleagues, collaborators, and friends.



According to Burkina Information Agency, after the body was removed from the Tengandogo hospital, a family stopover in Garguin and an absolution at the Wendtoin church, Jean Victor Ouedraogo was buried at the family home in Silmissi, his native village, where he took his first steps at school.



Paying tribute to the deceased, the officiating pastor praised his altruism, stating that Jean Victor lived usefully and was always ready to come to the aid of others. He also mentioned the loss to the locality where Ouedraogo initiated and supported development initiatives.



Former Regional Director of Communications for the North, Emile Bayala, recalled the dynamism and quest for excellence of the deceased. He shared memories of working with Ouedraogo in 2009, ensuring media coverage of the 49th anniversary of independence in Ouahigouya. Bayala highlighted Ouedraogo’s ability to cover multiple events per day despite limited resources.



Issa Compaore, a junior in primary school, remembered Ouedraogo as a dynamic older brother passionate about football. Compaore noted that Ouedraogo was known by his initials, JVO, and was an excellent defender on their team.



Classmate Emmanuel Nikiema described Ouedraogo as a fighter who loved playing football and had an early passion for commentating on matches, indicating that journalism was a natural path for him.



Village elder Issaka Dondasse mourned the loss of a development worker, emphasizing Ouedraogo’s contributions to the community, including the village school, college, and boreholes. Dondasse attributed a major rural festival to Ouedraogo’s efforts and called him a builder whose works would not be forgotten.



The Director General of the AIB, Seraphine Some/Millogo, expressed compassion to the family of the deceased and acknowledged Ouedraogo’s contributions as a correspondent for the Agency.



Throughout his career, Jean Victor Ouedraogo served as a teacher, presenter on Radio Voix du Paysan, correspondent for AIB, and journalist in Sidwaya. He also held positions as director of communications and press relations at the SP/CNLS, the Ministry of Youth, and the Prime Minister’s Office of Faso. Ouedraogo leaves behind a widow, children, and grieving parents.
