FKF Condemns Chaos during Shabana, Gor Mahia Match

Nairobi: Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has strongly condemned the chaos witnessed during the match between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC at Gusii Stadium.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Federation confirmed that preliminary reports from various health facilities within Kisii County indicated that at least 72 people were treated after sustaining injuries during the chaotic match at the Gusii stadium.

‘FKF strongly condemns all forms of violence in our stadiums. Football must remain a sport that brings people together – not one that puts lives at risk,’ the statement read in part.

The Federation noted they were working closely with relevant authorities to establish the circumstances that led to the unrest, adding that disciplinary measures will be taken upon conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Further, they urged members of the public and the media to refrain from circulating unverified reports, particularly claims of fatalities as no death had been reported as of Sunday evening.

‘FKF will continue to monitor the situation and will provide timely updates to the public should any new developments arise. Let us all work together to protect the image, integrity, and safety of Kenyan football,’ concluded the statement.

Shabana suffered a narrow defeat after they lost 1-0 to Gor Mahia in the tense match which kicked off 45 minutes later than scheduled after fans from both teams clashed earlier in the day.
