Koulpelogo: The NGO Concern Worldwide launched on Thursday an initiative to distribute 2,000 school kits in the commune of Ouargaye, located in Koulpelogo province, Nakambe region. This action aims to support vulnerable children, particularly internally displaced students, in a context marked by massive displacement caused by insecurity.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the project, entitled “Emergency Response to Cover the Education and Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) Needs of Displaced Students and Guests Affected by Population Movements in Koulpelogo Province,” is being carried out in partnership with the Koulpelogo Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DPEPNF). It seeks to address urgent educational and health needs in this region.
The distribution of school kits began on October 22, 2025, and will continue until October 24. These kits, containing essential school supplies, are intended for 2,000 students, the majority of whom are displaced children and vulnerable families. The project aims to alleviate costs for parents, who are often unable to afford school supplies due to crisis conditions.
In addition to the distribution, infrastructure rehabilitation works are planned, including the rehabilitation of 6 latrines and 6 water points in schools, as well as the construction of 4 latrine blocks and 8 temporary classrooms to improve access to education and reduce overcrowding in schools.
Training on gender-based violence (GBV) and psychosocial support will also be offered to teachers to strengthen their capacities in the context of the crisis and help them better support students.
The vice-president of the special delegation of the commune of Ouargaye, Nazaire Zombre, expressed his gratitude for this assistance, noting that many families are unable to provide the necessary school equipment due to travel. He hopes that this initiative will benefit all primary school students in the commune.
For the project leader, Doctor Moussa Guelbeogo, this initiative represents a collective effort to provide relief to families and children during a difficult time.
‘We are proud to be able to meet the urgent needs of displaced and vulnerable children, not only by providing them with school supplies, but also by contributing to the rehabilitation of school infrastructure. This project demonstrates the importance of solidarity and commitment from all local and humanitarian actors. We hope that this action will have a lasting positive impact on the community and will allow each child to continue their educational journey in better conditions,’ he said.
This action is part of a broader effort to support displaced students and host communities by increasing access to education and improving school conditions. Concern Worldwide, in collaboration with local partners, emphasizes the importance of education in providing hope to children even during this difficult time.
