Nairobi: The Atlas Lions A’ of Morocco emerged victorious at the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Nairobi, Kenya, defeating the Bareas of Madagascar 3-2. This victory marks Morocco’s third CHAN title, making them the most successful nation in the tournament’s history.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the match saw an early lead by Madagascar with a goal from Felicite Manohantsoa in the 9th minute. However, Morocco responded strongly with an equalizer from Yousef Mehri in the 27th minute and a stellar performance by Oussama Lamlioui, who scored twice in the 44th and 80th minutes, securing his position as the competition’s top scorer with six goals. Toky Rakotondraibe managed to level the score at 2-2 in the 69th minute, but Morocco ultimately prevailed.
This victory is Morocco’s third CHAN title, following their previous wins in 2018 and 2020. Moroccan team captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat was honored as the tournament’s best player, while Oussama Lamlioui received the top scorer accolade. Senegalese goalkeeper Marc Diouf was recognized as the tournament’s best goalkeeper. The defending champions, the Lions, secured third place after defeating Sudan in a penalty shootout.
