Kakamega: The Member of Parliament for Lurambi Constituency, Bishop Titus Khamala, has overseen the disbursement of Sh55 million in bursaries through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF). University and college students from the constituency will each receive Sh5,000, while those in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions will get Sh4,000. Students in both day and boarding secondary schools have also been allocated Sh5,000 each.

According to Kenya News Agency, bursary allocations by ward are as follows: Butsotso Central Ward – Sh12,940,000; Sheywe Ward – Sh8,670,000; Butsotso East Ward – Sh8,488,000; Shirere Ward – Sh6 million; and Mahiakalo Ward – Sh5,420,000. Speaking during the cheque distribution event at Muslim Primary School in Kakamega Central, Bishop Khamala announced that Sh4 million has been set aside to support students who previously dropped out of school due to lack of fees. ll NGCDF support in schools within the constituency.

Bishop Khamala also mentioned that Sh1 million has been reserved for those who applied for bursaries but were missing from the final list of beneficiaries. Additionally, Sh2,000 has been allocated to students in county polytechnics to aid in purchasing stationery. The MP emphasized that 98 percent of the NGCDF funds are directed towards development projects and bursaries, with only 2 percent used for administrative purposes.

He noted the transformational impact of the Fund, particularly in enhancing school infrastructure nationwide. During the event, Bishop Khamala handed over an eight-classroom block to Kakamega Muslim Primary School, which serves 200 pupils. He also revealed plans to establish a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institute in the constituency starting next year. ‘We need about five acres of land between Butsotso East and Butsotso Central so we can establish a TVET to change the lives of our people,’ he stated.
