Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of Youth, Roland Somda, presided over the official launch of activities for International Youth Day. The event, held on Monday, August 11, was themed "Pact for the future: The Burkina we want, the role of youth in a Burkina of peace and sovereignty." Minister Somda emphasized the importance of youth as a pivotal instrument for national development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the minister highlighted that this year's edition is designed to be diverse, inclusive, and action-oriented, promoting creative genius. The activities are set to feature awareness campaigns and training sessions across all regions of the country. These sessions will revolve around major themes such as the pact for the future, the progressive and popular revolution, the confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), and presidential initiatives, all of which serve as real levers for the socio-economic integration of young people.
The program also includes regional consultations paired with exhibitions showcasing the talents, initiatives, and innovations young people have developed to tackle contemporary challenges. A competition titled "Tribune of Creativity and Innovation" aims to encourage the engagement and solutions proposed by the youth. A national youth conference, slated for August 11 and 12, will provide a platform for young voices to address significant national development issues. The minister stressed the need for responsible action and civic and patriotic commitment, stating, "It is together that we will build a strong, united, and sovereign Burkina Faso for future generations."
The Minister remarked that International Youth Day serves as a unique opportunity for reflection and action to foster the active participation of young people in national development. He called on government actors, civil society, and technical and financial partners to enhance their support for the socio-economic and professional development of Burkinabe youth. Concluding his address, he urged young people to be actively involved in upcoming activities and to voice ambitious commitments.
