Bafoussam: owner of ten-seat bike says unemployment forced him to think

Emmanuel Wembe has left many in Bafoussam astonished by his ability to transform a two-seat motorbike to a ten-place machine.

The man aged 35 said he had no choice, given the suffering he faced as well as the discomfort in carrying farmers to remote areas on a small bike.

“With these our bikes, we can go to areas where cars cannot reach. It is easier especially as the bikes can carry up to 10 persons,” Emmanuel Wembe told BTV.

“I once carried passengers to the farm and it was too stressful. I then thought of how to increase the length of the bike. I did it gradually. I did not just do it at once. It took me years,” he disclosed.

The business man said it started when he was unable to find a job.

“When there are no jobs, you have to think of something. You don’t have to wait for someone,” Wembe added. “It is due to suffering and lack of jobs that I had to do this.”

Users of his services have said they have no choice. “We are already used to it. It’s been over ten years now. God is the one taking care of us,” a woman who regularly carries her farm produce to and from town said.

Emmanuel Wembe encouraged Cameroonians to invest in their skills and reduce the importation of products which are often expensive. He encourages these group of persons to buy parts and do the assembling themselves to reduce costs.

MPs discuss teleworking contract issue

The draft general labour law, under discussion in the specialty in National Assembly, and which provides for teleworking contracts, topped the debate of MPs this Tuesday.

Speaking to ANGOP, MP Elizandra Coelho said that this type of contract will be extended to all professional classes.

According to her, the teleworker benefits, with the necessary adaptations, from the rights and duties available to ordinary workers.

Thus, she said, a worker will be able to carry out his activity from his home or from another office.

Elizandra Coelho noted that within the framework of contractual freedom, the worker can decide to work in this modality in agreement with the employer.

As for the control, she added, the parties must work out the method, but the law establishes that the official can be summoned for specific meetings. According to her, production will be the main method of control.

For example, she mentioned that in the event of maternity leave, the worker continues to be entitled to three months, plus one without pay, and the possibility of being able to stay another three months teleworking.

She said that the draft general labour law deserved an in-depth study by parliamentarians who introduce changes in content and form in certain standards.

With 326 articles and 11 chapters, the draft general labour law repeals that of 7/15 of June 15.

The document strengthens harmony in labour relations between workers and employers and essentially aims to resume a set of rules that were repealed with Law No. 2/2000, of February 11, in order to create a better balance in defending the interests of workers and employers.

As a general rule, it reintroduces the employment contract of indefinite duration, and assumes, unequivocally, the employment contract as the only form of constitution of legal and labour relations

Vincent Aboubakar’s brilliance with Besiktas compensating Al-Nassr exit?

Vincent Aboubakar returned to Besiktas in January from Al-Nassr, and has so far been one of the Turkish side’s most impactful players.

With 13 matches played since his arrival, the 31-year-old has scored 10 goals with one assist. He netted a brace on Saturday as Besiktas defeated Antalyaspor 3-1.

Aboubakar parted ways with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League to provide space for Christiano Ronaldo, who was arriving from Manchester United.

“When Christiano arrived, coach Rudi Garcia called me into his office. He told me that normally an international player has to leave…I told him that I already wanted to leave before and honestly, as Christiano was coming, my playing time would be reduced” the Garoua native said before leaving.

His contract was mutually terminated in compliance with Saudi football laws, which restrict clubs from registering more than 8 foreign players.

Christiano Ronaldo who has faced criticism on several occasions for average performance at the club, has scored 12 goals in 13 matches.

Vincent Aboubakar scored 12 in 34 matches between 2021 and 2023 with the Saudi club.

His return to Besiktas in January, constituted a third stint with the team. The 2017 AFCON winner earlier played with the Black and Whites from 2016 to 2017 (on loan from FC Porto) and 2020 to 2021.

Besiktas are currently third on the classification table after 32 days of play.

I will retain Tema East seat for NDC in 2024-Ashai Odamtten

Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, has promised to retain the seat for the National Democratic Congress if elected at the constituency level.

The incumbent MP is being contested by two others; Mr. Bediako Ed Nii Kraku and Mr. Michael Nii Abbey.

Mr. Odamtten, who is serving his first term as MP, snatched the seat, from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had held it for 24 years, from Mr. Daniel Titus Nii Kwatei Glover, the then MP and Deputy Minister of Transport.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Odamtten said the people trusted his leadership style that would give them another resounding win for the party in the 2024 general election.

‘Ashia is the man to improve the fortunes of Tema East and the NDC party in the area, and I know the love of the people for me is sustained,’ he stated.

He said he had represented his constituents well in Parliament and performed creditably despite the party being in opposition.

He said he had discharged his duties well as a legislator both at the plenary and committee levels, adding that he also carried the concerns of the people to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), where he once was a Metropolitan Chief Executive.

Mr. Odamtten said through his advocacy at Parliament, especially on World Water Day, where he laid before the house the water issues, a two-kilometre, four-inch pipe was laid to solve the perennial water shortage in the area.

He said even though the MP’s Common Fund was not much and not released on time, he brought the constituency a few social, education, health, governance, and security interventions.

He said with support from others and companies, he was able to get funds to embark on his projects and support, adding that, for instance, he recently presented chop boxes filled with provisions to 354 junior high graduates enrolled in the senior high school, in addition to building a 50-seater canteen and a school hygiene facility for some schools in the constituency.

Mr. Odamtten said he was unfazed by others contesting him as he believed he would still deliver victory to the people.
