Geneva: FIND (www.FINDdx.org) recently hosted ambassadors from 26 African countries and the African Union at its offices in the Global Health Campus in Geneva. The meeting provided an overview of FIND's work in each participating country and highlighted its role as a valuable partner in enhancing diagnostic capabilities. According to African Press Organization, FIND's CEO, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, underscored the importance of diagnosis in health responses, from early detection to pandemic preparedness. He emphasized the organization's commitment to innovation and access to diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries. The meeting also served as a precursor to this year's Diagnostics Day event, scheduled for 21 May, coinciding with the World Health Assembly. Key conclusions from the meeting included a commitment to enhance regional manufacturing of diagnostics and health technologies, a consensus on increased cooperation between the African Union and FIND, and support for FIND's role in expanding access to d iagnostics for diseases such as HIV, TB, malaria, and mpox. Diagnostics were also recognized as essential to health security and universal health coverage. Dr. Ayoade Alakija, FIND's Board Chair, highlighted the proactive role of African leaders in addressing health challenges, particularly on a continent facing significant health burdens. She affirmed FIND's continued support in strengthening pandemic preparedness and ensuring access to quality diagnostics. FIND's Diagnostics Day event on 21 May at the Vieux Bois in Geneva will gather global health leaders to discuss next steps in ensuring accessible diagnostics for all.
