Kadjebi to vaccine 12,454 children against Measles, Rubella


The Kadjebi District Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to launch a vaccination campaign to protect children against Measles, Rubella and Vitamin A deficiency.

The campaign, scheduled for October 2-6, targets 12,454 children aged nine months to five years for vaccination against the diseases.

Mrs Mabel Amankwa-Amoah, Health Promotion Officer for Kadjebi District, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

According to her, the vaccination drive would cover the entire district, and it is expected to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of children in the area and that 12,454 children were targeted for vaccination against measles, and rubella during the period.

The Health Promotion Officer said 12,454 children would also be given vitamin A supplement in addition.

She said WHO/CDC risk assessment tool identified fifty Districts in Ghana as high risk for measles outbreak and that their main aim was to increase all el
igible children’s immunity against Measles and rubella by vaccinating all children aged nine months to 59 months.

Mrs Amankwa-Amoah, said the initiative was crucial as measles, rubella, and vitamin A deficiency could have severe and long-lasting effects on children’s health.

She said the MR vaccine was highly effective in preventing measles and rubella and it was considered a safe and important part of routine childhood vaccinations.

She therefore appealed to parents and caregivers to vaccinate their children for goodlife as measles and rubella kills.
