Teya-teyaneng: Nine Roads Directorate employees graduated from Lerotholi Polytechnics Roads Technician Capacity Building Course, with a call for them to apply their newly acquired technical skills to improve service delivery. The graduates received their certificates during a ceremony held at the Roads Directorate Training Centre in Teya-Teyaneng, and the event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Lerotholi Polytechnic and the Roads Directorate. According to African Press Organization, speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Matjato Moteane expressed that it is refreshing to hear that the graduates had acquired knowledge and skills that would enable them to perform their duties more effectively. He emphasized that the Ministry's responsibility is to ensure that Lesotho is interconnected through a reliable road network, adding that his duty was to ensure that work within the Ministry is implemented. Mr. Moteane expressed satisfaction that the g raduates are ready to apply their knowledge, saying this will contribute to the effective utilization of the M120 million budget allocated to the Ministry to improve the lives of Basotho. He stressed that the country could not achieve meaningful development if allocated resources are not properly utilized. Road Directorate Director General Mr. Thabo Mokhoane stated that the organization was investing in capacity development to strengthen its technical workforce and improve service delivery. He noted that the graduates had demonstrated potential and commitment throughout the program, making them valuable assets to the Directorate. Mr. Mokhoane urged the graduates to use the technical skills they had acquired to make informed decisions when carrying out their duties. He said the signing of the MOU further strengthened cooperation between the Roads Directorate and Lerotholi Polytechnic in technical training and capacity development. Speaking on behalf of the lecturers, Mrs. Matšolo Mathibeli congratulated the graduates, acknowledging that completing the program had been a long journey. She noted that the students had demonstrated commitment, a willingness to learn, and determination throughout their studies. One of the graduates, Mrs. Maboitumelo Mojela, expressed gratitude to the Roads Directorate for giving employees in their 40s and 50s an opportunity to further their careers through the training program. She described the program as an investment in their future, allowing them to develop skills and improve their contributions to the nation. Mrs. Mojela also thanked the lecturers for their patience, support, and commitment throughout the training, saying their guidance played a crucial role in helping the participants complete the program. The course covered various technical subjects, including Use of Computers, Concrete Technology, Engineering Geology, Basic Land Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Site Supervision and Management, Technical Communication, Applied Mechanics, Construction Detailing, Contract s Management, Highway Technology, and Hydrology.
