Kuria: Five cases of cholera and one casualty have been reported in Kuria East Sub County-Migori since the outbreak of the disease two days ago.
According to Kenya News Agency, Migori County Executive Committee Member for Health Caleb Opondi stated that the first case was identified at Sanguri Village in Kuria East Sub County.
Opondi confirmed that health officials have already visited the area to assess the situation and are addressing it. He noted that the home of the deceased was using untreated water from a nearby stream. Samples from the affected home have been collected for further analysis, and efforts to treat the stream water have commenced to provide residents with clean water.
Health officials have also fumigated the home and the Kegonga Sub County hospital where other cholera patients are admitted. In an effort to curb the spread of the disease, the county has banned eateries in Sanguri village. Local radio stations in Kuria have been engaged to help sensitize and educate the community in the affected areas.
Opondi urged Migori residents to maintain good hygiene practices to prevent communicable diseases.
