“The Homeland or Nothing Movement” Celebrates Joking Kinship in Ouagadougou

Kadiogo: In order to boost social cohesion and living together, "The Homeland or Nothing Movement" organized the 1st edition of the Faso Tigung festival which took place from August 1 to 3, 2025, in the Paglayiri district of Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Faso Tigung, which means "Gathering of the Communities of Burkina Faso", is a discovery of the National Coordination of the citizen monitoring association called "The Movement La Patrie ou Rien", to rekindle the flames of joking kinship in order to strengthen living together in Burkina Faso.

The 1st edition of the Faso Tigung festival was organized from August 1 to 3, 2025, in the Paglayiri district of Ouagadougou, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Mr. Gilbert Pingdwend© Ou©draogo, represented by the mission manager, Amidou Belem.

According to Mr. Belem, the Ministry in charge of Culture can only support such cultural activities which energize Burkinabe society. "Joking relationships are very important in our cultural heritage. They allow different communities to live peacefully together and avoid deep disagreements between them," he said.

For 72 hours, eight communities competed in sports, culinary arts, traditional dance and storytelling. In addition to these activities, the public was treated to a shopping street and a panel on joking relationships at the Espace Mor¨ne.

For the national president of the "La Patrie ou Rien Movement", Amidou Sawadogo, this first edition was thought up and produced by the members of the movement as a contribution to promoting the country's customs and traditions. "We thank the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, for establishing the Customs and Traditions Day. To support this wonderful idea, we deemed it appropriate to organize Faso Tigung to highlight the joking relationship in the land of upright men," he said.

Faso Tigung was organized thanks to the co-sponsorship of His Majesty Wappasi Naaba of Saaba and Mrs. Juliette Yabr©/ Kongo, founder of the Women's Museum. As for the first vice-president of the special delegation of Ouagadougou's 6th district, Idrissa Th©odore Yam©ogo, he was delighted to have hosted the first edition of Faso Tigung in his district. "Joking relationships should be valued in our cities. We invite the different communities to protect this heritage," he insisted.

The festival ended with a maracana match, marked by the Fulani victory over the Sana in the final. At the end of the 72 hours of activities, there was general satisfaction among the organizers.
